Michigan Football: Latest on pair of key in-state 2022 recruits
Here’s the latest on four-star recruit Dillon Tatum, as well as Deone Walker, another top target for Michigan football in the class of 2022.
Michigan football fans have been waiting for Dillon Tatum to make a decision. And now, they might not have to wait much longer.
Tatum is ranked No. 261 overall in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and he’s also ranked fifth in the state of Michigan.
The West Bloomfield, Michigan prospect also told Josh Helmholdt of Rivals that he’s hoping to make a decision by the end of the month.
"“It’s definitely a very difficult decision. They are both top programs and I just love both the staffs. I have coach (Ron) Bellamy up at Michigan and I have been talking to the entire Michigan State staff since they got there. I felt very comfortable at Michigan State this past weekend, and just very loved at Michigan. It’s going to be a hard decision, but I hope to do it before the month of July.”"
Tatum was in East Lansing for a visit to Michigan State over the weekend and he did seem to enjoy his time with the Spartans, who have prioritized him as one of their cornerstones in this class.
Yet, make no mistake, Michigan football has been recruiting Tatum hard for a long time. And now that his former high school coach would be his position coach in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines might be tough to beat.
However, Tatum has pushed this decision back multiple times. It was supposed to happen in April and the delay seems to favor Michigan State. We’ll see if he pulls the trigger in June and the truth is, if it wasn’t for Bellamy, I’d probably give MSU the edge.
It feels far from a done deal.
A new crystal ball for Michigan football
The Wolverines have started trending with three-star linebacker Aaron Alexander this week after offering the Belleville prospect last weekend.

Now, Michigan football is trending with another in-state prospect as Allen Trieu put in a crystal ball pick for Deone Walker, a big-time defensive tackle and major target for U-M.
Michigan offered Walker early in the process and hasn’t let up. He’s been recruited as a top priority and at 6-foot-6, 340 pounds, it’s been a wise move.
Walker is a three-star recruit right now and ranked 367th overall in 2022. He’s also No. 11 in the state of Michigan, but he’s due for a climb and his game reflects that — so does his offer list.
Yet, the Detroit Cass Tech prospect seems to be a Michigan lean.
Trieu put in his pick with a confidence level of six and EJ Holland, top Michigan recruiting expert at Rivals also has a Futurecast pick in for Walker, who was recently on campus.
Walker would fill a huge need in the middle for Michigan football and he could be the long-term answer at nose tackle if he winds up committing to the Wolverines.
