Michigan football is hosting a number of recruits this weekend and after experts projected a few to the Wolverines, should we be on commitment watch?

The summer months have been good to Michigan football on the recruiting trail the past two years and that trend should continue this summer for the Wolverines.

With the dead period ending and official visits now taking place, it should only be a matter of time before Michigan football adds to its 2022 recruiting class, which currently has seven commitments and is headlined by five-star cornerback Will Johnson.

Johnson wants to see U-M put together a solid 2022 class and one name that needs to be in it is Deone Walker, a defensive tackle out of Detroit Cass Tech. He’s rated as a four-star by Rivals and just received a Futurecast pick from EJ Holland to the Wolverines.

Walker would be a huge addition, both in terms of his size and how important he would be to the class. A number of SEC schools are after him and a decision isn’t expected soon.

However, there are multiple recruits on campus this weekend who could pledge to the Wolverines. One of those is Micah Pollard, who has a total of six projections to Michigan between 247 sports and Rivals. Mike Farrell of Rivals, a national analyst just added a Futurecast this week.

Farrell also added an expert projection for three-star defensive lineman Hayden Schwartz, who is also being projected to the Wolverines by Holland. It’s the continuation of a trend that started last month.

The newest projection, though, comes at running back with three-star recruit Dillon Bell. Bell took an unofficial visit to Michigan earlier this week and is on campus this weekend. He’s 6-foot-2, 200 pounds out of Texas. He’s also got the ability to be a running back or wide receiver.

George Pettaway is another top target at running back and there are some others, but it would be good to get on the board with Bell, especially since he can do multiple things.

Will Jay Toia commit?

The other big news of the weekend is that 2021 four-star defensive tackle Jay Toia, who signed with USC but entered the portal, is on campus for a visit.

Michigan was an immediate contender once he entered the portal and it’s not a stretch to say the Wolverines are the favorite. There has even been talk of a commitment this weekend.

Toia would be a huge addition and is a guy who could help the defensive line right away next season. But as far as 2022, some momentum is needed and it would be great to see Schwartz, Pollard, or Bell pull the trigger on a commitment.
