One of Michigan basketball’s top targets, Ty Rodgers, has set an official visit to Ann Arbor in June, and here’s what it means for the Wolverines.

During his first two years as Michigan basketball head coach, Juwan Howard has done just about everything. He’s landed five-star recruits, McDonald’s All-Americans, and signed the No. 1 overall class in the nation.

Now he’s looks to build on that in the 2022 recruiting class with top in-state recruit Ty Rodgers,

Rodgers is a top-50 prospect according to the 247 sports composite rankings for 2022, which has him ranked 50th overall and third in the state. He’s 6-foot-7, 195 pounds, and would help address the Wolverines’ need for a 3/4 type in this class who can defend.

And, Rodgers is going to visit Michigan basketball — literally as soon as he possibly can. The dead period is lifting June 1 and Rodgers is going to Ann Arbor June 1-2, which is a big deal for Howard and the Wolverines.

The news of the visit is via Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers. Along with Michigan basketball, Rodgers will also visit UConn and Purdue, at least so far.

What are Michigan’s chances?

Rodgers could add some schools to his visit list, but based on that, I’d give the Wolverines a strong edge in his recruitment right now. He hasn’t put out a top-five yet though, so some other contenders could emerge.

However, the Wolverines have made Rodgers a priority from the jump in the 2022 class, and here’s what Rodgers told The Michigan Insider about Juwan and U-M:

"“He’s just a great dude. I can’t say enough good things about him. He’s very genuine. He loves all his players and the thing I like about him the most is he really wants you to succeed outside of basketball like after basketball. He talks about that a lot and just your development as both a player and a person.”"

Syracuse is another team firmly in the mix, along with Michigan State, Ohio State, and a slew of others. Those final visits will be interesting to watch.

From my perspective, Rodgers would be an ideal fit in Michigan’s 2022 class due to his versatility. Jett Howard is a good bet as a wing. Seth Trimble looks like the favorite to be the point guard in the 2022 class for Michigan and the center could be Donovan Clingan.

That’s probably the wish list right now, outside of Jalen Duren, who’s likely heading to the pros. Take Howard, Clingan, and Trimble, plus Rodgers and that’s as good as it gets.

Rodgers is a tenacious defender and he could easily play the three or the four. He would also be a great culture fit at Michigan.
