Michigan football is trending with expert picks for 2022 defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, plus an Ohio State wide receiver is in the portal and interested.

It’s taken some time for Michigan football‘s recruiting board to develop, especially on the defensive side of the ball with a new staff in the class of 2022, but one top target at defensive tackle is Jordan Phillips.

Phillips is a three-star defensive tackle out of Florida and after getting a crystal ball prediction to the Wolverines not long ago, Phillips is now starting to trend to Michigan football as he’s picked up another crystal ball, as well as a Futurecast pick over at Rivals.

Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider was the first to project Phillips to the Wolverines. Then, over the weekend, citing a self-guided visit taken by Phillips ($), Webb increased the confidence level in his pick from six to eight.

Steve Lorenz, another recruiting expert over at 247 sports, also projected Phillips to U-M, making that the two most prominent guys at 247 for Michigan to do so.

Then, EJ Holland, the top recruiting expert at Rivals, followed suit with a Futurecast pick over the weekend and each is hinting that a decision could come sooner rather than later. Clayton Sayfie also has a pick for Michigan in at Rivals, making it four total.

Phillips is expected to take an official visit in June. But he could be committed by then.

At 6-foot-3, 290 pounds, Phillips is a three-star recruit ranked as the No. 603 player overall in the 2022 class, as well as the 50th-ranked defensive tackle. That’s a little low, but Webb has been talking the kid up, plus his ranking via 247 sports is higher. He’s the No. 32 DT in their own rankings for 2022.

Ohio State transfer interested in Michigan?

In some other news, Jameson Williams, a former top-100 wide receiver from Ohio State has recently entered the transfer portal.

Williams is 6-foot-1, 169 pounds, and was the No. 82 overall prospect in the 2019 class. During his first two seasons with the Buckeyes, he caught just 15 passes and three touchdowns, but Ohio State has among the most talented receiver groups in the country every year.

Williams did play and caught three passes for 63 yards and a touchdown against Clemson, as well as a catch for 14 yards against Bama in the national title game.

The former four-star receiver entered the portal last week and told 247 sports on Sunday he had narrowed his list down to Alabama, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Florida, and USC.

That’s a pretty impressive list of programs but Williams is an impressive receiver. He’s going to compete for playing time wherever he goes and honestly, he would probably be Michigan’s most talented player at the position the second he walked through the door.

However, Williams already has three transfer predictions (crystal balls) from 247 sports to Alabama, so it looks like that’s where he will wind up.

But Michigan received a crystal ball for transfer Lance Dixon and that never happened, but even if Williams doesn’t choose Bama, it feels like a long shot for the Wolverines.
