Michigan Football: 3 unanswered questions after spring ball
By Nick Popio
Can the defense return to an acceptable level of respectability?
Besides Dax Hill and Aidan Hutchinson the Michigan defense is lacking in serious talent. Hill and Hutchinson will likely be sought after when their decision comes to go pro, but what about the remainder of the defenders? Mike Macdonald and Mo Linguist are inheriting a once proud group that has fallen from the ranks of decency.
The line is missing a second pass rusher that puts fear in the opposing quarterback. It would be a welcomed sight if Braiden McGregor returns from injury and solidifies the spot by living up to his recruiting hype. However, Taylor Upshaw may reap the benefits of starting if he can beat out a couple of other of his linemates.
Josh Ross and Michael Barrett appear to be locked into running with the ones at linebacker. David Ojabo could be the last missing piece depending upon what the young guys do in camp. The secondary is experienced but didn’t play like it far too many times last year. They might be asked to carry the unit until it gains its footing.
