The Michigan football team is taking the field at the Big House on Saturday for a spring game. The only problem is that outside of parents, no one will get to see it.

It’s pretty strange when you think about it, in this day and age, to have a spring game and I do mean an actual game, not just a glorified practice, and not have it on TV.

I can understand not opening things up for fans or whatever right now, but I’m sure plenty of Michigan football fans would love to watch the scrimmage, especially after we found out how the teams were divided via Wolverine Digest on Friday.

Josh Gatts and Mike Macdonald drafted the teams. Each has one quarterback as J.J. McCarthy and Cade McNamara are on separate teams. Dan Villari is the No. 3 quarterback right now, but the sophomore-to-be doesn’t really seem to be in the starting mix.

Five-star running back Donovan Edwards, who has been impressive this spring, is also on McCarthy’s team as are Ronnie Bell, Blake Corum, Roman Wilson, and A.J. Henning.

McNamara will get to throw to guys like Cornelius Johnson, Christian Dixon, and Andrel Anthony, among others. He will also have tight end Erick All, as well as running backs Hassan Haskins and Tavierre Dunlap.

Yet, unfortunately, Michigan football fans won’t be able to watch the spring game, because, for some reason, the program has decided to keep it under wraps.

This tweet pretty much sums it up.

What to look for in Michigan football’s spring game

Even though we won’t get to watch the game, there will be plenty of talk about what happened. The question on everyone’s mind is the quarterback position, so you can expect a lot of eyes on McCarthy and McNamara.

It seems like McNamara has the lead right now, but McCarthy’s talent is undeniable, just as this throw earlier this week showed.

It’s too bad that we won’t get to see what happens on the field, especially as the Wolverines transition to an actual game. In previous years, they televised practice and did some live stuff in controlled settings.

This year, the two teams will play and I’m assuming keep score. That’s the right way to go and I like the competitive juices returning, I just don’t get why it’s not on TV.

Maybe Jim Harbaugh doesn’t want the new defense being shown or who knows the motivation. So we’ll be looking for clues as to what happened as tidbits are sure to leak out.
