Michigan Football should target Jahari Rogers in transfer portal
Michigan football hasn’t been active at all in the transfer portal but one recent entry at cornerback is Jahari Rogers who should interest the Wolverines.
It has been a busy offseason for Michigan football with new coaching hires plenty of player departures, and an entirely new feel heading into the 2021 season.
It’s not a rebuild, but Michigan football is definitely going through a reboot, one that it hopes will help the Wolverines bounce back quickly from a 2-4 season in 2020.
One thing that hasn’t really come to fruition has been the transfer portal. Michigan was expected to be active in the portal in an attempt to fill some needs and add depth.
The Wolverines did add quarterback Alan Bowman out of Texas Tech from the portal and that might end up being a really solid move, especially if he winds up starting in 2021, which is entirely possible given the lack of experience between Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy.
More than anything, it seemed like the defense could use some upgrades in the transfer portal and while Michigan football did express interest in elite defenders, nothing really came of it.
Of course, Michigan has tough standards for admitting kids and that’s hurt the Wolverines with transfers and even recruits in the past. Lance Dixon seemed like a sure bet to transfer to Michigan, but he wound up at West Virginia.
A new target in the transfer portal for Michigan football
Still, there is still some hope that Michigan might finally add some defensive talent and one name to watch is Jahari Rogers, a former four-star recruit who played one season at Florida.
Rogers was a top-100 recruit for the Gators and did actually see some playing time in the Cotton Bowl against Oklahoma, so it’s not like he was a total bust with the Gators.
However, the kid from Arlington, Texas is now in the portal and according to EJ Holland of Rivals, Michigan football could make a push here, likely because of cornerbacks coach Maurice Linguist and all of his ties to the state of Texas.
It would have been nice to see Michigan football add a defensive tackle with some size and some pass-rush help on the edge. Yet, cornerback was a real weakness last year and even though there is some talent to develop on the roster, adding more to the mix wouldn’t be a bad thing.
At the very least, Michigan needs to find a way to be more active in the portal because a key way of adding talent continues to pass the Wolverines by.
