Michigan Football: No. 1 DT, top CB target set to visit Ann Arbor
Michigan football is set to have two big-time recruits taking self-guided visits in Ann Arbor this weekend and here’s what it means for the Wolverines.
There’s no doubt that some of the new additions to the Michigan football coaching staff have made a really positive impact on the recruiting trail.
Two of the biggest additions so far, just in the sense of recruiting, have been cornerbacks coach and co-defensive coordinator, Maurice Linguist and also safeties coach Ronald Bellamy.
Bellamy is a former Wolverine, while Linguist coached at Texas A&M and was hired away from the Dallas Cowboys to coach for Jim Harbaugh.
Linguist made a big impact in the secondary and has landed four-star recruits Taylor Groves and Kody Jones while playing a vital role in the commitment of five-star cornerback Will Johnson.
It’s safe to say Johnson isn’t a Michigan football commit without Linguist. Now, the Wolverines are looking to build on that momentum.
Linguist is working hard to close to with cornerback Myles Pollard, a three-star prospect in the 247 sports composite rankings that’s likely to move up at some point. He’s a really talented kid and at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, pairing him with Johnson would be impressive.
Groves is also 6-foot-2 and Jones, who could be a safety or nickel corner, is 5-foot-11. While Groves and Jones didn’t visit the campus before making their decisions, Pollard is going to be in Ann Arbor this weekend for a self-guided visit.
That’s big for Michigan and according to Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider, Johnson, the top-ranked recruit in the state of Michigan, is pushing for Pollard to join him in U-M’s 2022 class.
Getting Johnson in the fold early was huge because he has been recruiting for the Wolverines and it seems the combination of Johnson, Linguist and Bellamy have made an impact with Walter Nolen, the top defensive tackle in 2022 and No. 2 overall prospect.
Sam Webb also reported (subscription required) on Thursday that Nolen would be visiting Ann Arbor next weekend too, meaning both Pollard and Nolen, each from Tennessee will be visiting.
Pollard is probably closer to committing than Nolen, but it’s still a really good sign to get him on campus, especially on his own dime, during the dead period.
A lot of recruits have committed shortly after to those places. At the very least, this shows that Michigan football is a legitimate contender for the No. 1 defensive tackle in 2022.
That’s a good place to start.
