What’s next?

While Michigan football fans might hope that the commitment of Johnson will rekindle the recruitment of five-star corner Domani Jackson, who committed to USC, there are some other targets on the board that are more likely.

Michigan is definitely going to keep pushing for Jackson. There’s no doubt about that. There was talk about Johnson and Jackson playing together, so it’s something to watch. But, he seems really solid on USC, so I wouldn’t count on it.

However, Linguist did say Michigan wasn’t done in the secondary and among the priority targets are four-star cornerback Jaeden Gould out of New Jersey and also four-star defensive back Dillon Tatum out of West Bloomfield.

EJ Holland of Rivals reported (subscription required) that Linguist reached out to Gould Sunday night and also that Johnson has been in touch with the corner from Bergen Catholic.

Gould has been trending with Michigan crystal balls for a while now and has felt like a U-M lean. He’s 6-foot-2, 193 pounds and is ranked 145th in the 247 sports composite rankings. He would also be a great fit alongside Johnson, Taylor Groves and Kody Jones, the other DB commitments.

Tatum has also been trending with crystal ball projections to Michigan. Ron Bellamy was his head coach in high school last year and with Bellamy coaching defensive backs now, Michigan football is the favorite with Tatum too.

However, the next commitment is liking coming Wednesday from four-star wide receiver Tay’shawn Trent from the Detroit area.

Trent picked up a bunch of crystal ball projections this week after he announced he would make his decision on Wednesday, so it appears another in-state recruit is coming later this week.
