Will can change this defense

One player can’t change everything on his own, but when that player is of the caliber of Will Johnson, it certainly is a step in the right direction.

There’s no doubt that Michigan’s pass defense has been an issue for years. Don Brown was fired over it and even though the new staff should be able to make some adjustments, the biggest difference will be finding dudes like Johnson, who don’t need the scheme to ball out.

With Johnson, it’s going to be really simple. Put him in man-to-man coverage on the other team’s best receiver and forget about it.

That’s a luxury that Michigan football hasn’t had for a long time. Jourdan Lewis was probably the next closest thing and he was 5-foot-10. Johnson is 6-foot-3. That’s why he will be a first-round pick when Lewis was only a third-round selection.

The best part about landing Johnson now is that it will give Michigan some real momentum on the recruiting trail and the chance to land even more talent to overhaul this defense.
