Young talent

We touched on this a little with McCarthy, but this Michigan football team is loaded with young talent, not only from the 2021 recruiting class but from 2020 and even 2019 too.

McCarthy is the freshman on everyone’s mind but another is Donovan Edwards, a five-star running back according to 247 sports who is expected to make an immediate impact.

However, there are some guys on defense that need to make instant impacts too and one of those is linebacker Junior Colson.

When I think about all the ways that Michigan football could use him the pairing with Macdonald at defensive coordinator just seems like a match made in heaven.

The Ravens were great over the years of finding ways to get after the quarterback and Colson is going to be a weapon for that. I actually think he needs to start or at least play significant snaps as a freshman because right now, he’s one of Michigan’s most talented pass rushers.

Colson at least has a different level of explosion and even if his pass-rush skills need refinement, he should be a weapon on the blitz and as a guy that used to play wide receiver, he can run and cover too, which is why Brown was looking at him as a Viper.

Beyond those guys, I want to see how Chris Hinton and Mazi Smith respond. Those two guys should be starting on the D-line for U-M and need to finally live up to the hype as top-100 recruits along with Hill.

Andre Seldon and Darion Green-Warren are guys I’m keeping an eye on at cornerback, then on the offensive line and at wide receiver, keep an eye on some of these underclassmen who came in highly rated but have yet to make a huge impact.
