New defense

I’m interested to learn how Mike Macdonald and the new defensive staff is going to use some of these guys and fit them into the new scheme.

How is the new staff going to utilize Daxton Hill? Don Brown clearly didn’t get the best out of him and the same could be said for others like Aidan Hutchinson and though he’s gone now, Kwity Paye.

Michael Barrett will be interesting. He seems like a good fit for inside linebacker to me, but it also depends on how Michigan football employs its scheme.

But it sounds like there will be essentially three down lineman, three linebackers and a hybrid sort of player — an edge rusher.

Part of what NFL teams do so well is mix things up and Macdonald definitely indicated that he wants to be multiple, which is smart. You need to play to your strengths, which Brown too often didn’t do.

While there isn’t a ton of info that leaks out about spring ball, we should start to get a better understanding of where guys are lining up and their position on the two-deep.
