When Michigan football fans went to bed, it seemed like a strong bet that at least one 2021 defensive tackle recruit would flip their commitment and sign with the Wolverines.

Now, it looks like there will be two.

On Tuesday, Michigan football began trending with crystal ball picks for 2021 defensive tackle Ikechukwu Iwunnah, who is currently committed to Colorado. Iwunnah is expected now to sign with the Wolverines Wednesday morning.

For months, there had been rumors about Rayshaun Benny and whether or not Michigan could flip him after he has been committed to Michigan State since October.

When he didn’t sign with the Spartans in the early signing period, it left the door open and when he signs Wednesday morning, it’s now likely going to be with U-M.

Very early on Wednesday morning, Benny’s 247 sports profile began trending with crystal ball picks for the Wolverines and from the biggest names possible in Sam Webb, Steven Lorenz, Allen Trieu and Steve Wiltfong, each with a confidence level of seven or higher.

Michigan’s recruiting reporter over at Rivals, EJ Holland is also talking about there being multiple flips on national signing day and that could only mean Benny is going to flip.

Holland later tweeted about how Rivals doesn’t allow flip picks, which is a reference to the 247 sports guys flipping their picks. If you read between the lines, it also means Holland would flip his pick to Michigan if he could.

Signing day fireworks

If that’s true and all the top recruiting experts in Michigan and in the Midwest for 247 sports would need to be wrong for it not to be, it will be absolutely huge for this 2021 class.

Just more than a week ago, Michigan football didn’t have a single defensive tackle prospect committed in this cycle and now the Wolverines could have three.

George Rooks is expected to sign today and even though he may not be a true defensive tackle, he’s got some pass rush ability and the idea of adding him and Benny is really exciting.

Iwunnah is 6-foot-4, 290 pounds and has room to grow. He’s also a track athlete and a recruit who’s got a lot of upside. He’s the kind of underrecruited kid that could be a gem down the line and I think Michigan got a steal.

Landing him would have been a great cap to signing day for the Wolverines, giving them at least one potential 300-pounder out of this class up front, then, the Benny news started trending.

Benny is 6-foot-5, 275 pounds and a big-time prospect. Rivals has him ranked in the top 100 and he’s 195 overall in the 247 sports composite rankings.

He’s someone who could compete for playing time right away, like as in next season. It’s hard to overstate how big this will be and his decision comes down at 10 AM est. Iwunnah will be 8 CST so stay tuned.
