MVP: Hunter Dickinson

I truly think people are running out of words and ways to describe just how good Hunter Dickinson has been this season. He has been the best player on the floor in just about every game the Wolverines have played.

He scores, defends, and rebounds all at a high level. He plays with a high motor. You can nitpick as hard as you want and you will struggle to find things not to like about his game.

Coming into this season, the center position was a huge question mark for Michigan basketball. Even though Jon Teske did struggle at times last season, he was still a solid player and a veteran leader. The outlook at the center position was a career backup and a true freshman.

The skepticism was real and completely justified. Not only did Hunter Dickinson answer the call by being ready to play right away, he has turned himself into one of the best players in the country already.

Dickinson is averaging 18 points and 8.1 rebounds per game so far. He’s shooting 73% from the field which leads all major conference players. KenPom currently ranks Dickinson 5th in their national player of the year rankings.

He’s the best freshman in the Big Ten, probably the best freshman in all of college basketball, and he has made himself a Wooden Award candidate in his true freshman season. Michigan basketball fans haven’t seen anything like this in a very long time.

Nobody saw this kind of play coming from Dickinson. Nobody thought he’d be a one and done candidate. But this guy is only getting better and better as the season goes on and his ceiling is a lot higher than most people had anticipated.

Hunter Dickinson is Michigan’s team MVP so far.
