Michigan Football: Fans need to take a page from Aaron Rodgers and relax
By Nick Popio
The Jim Harbaugh saga is spiraling out of control because some Michigan football fans are freaking out over it.
It’s been about a month and a half since the season ended suddenly on Thanksgiving weekend and all the talk has been centered on Jim Harbaugh and his job as Michigan football coach.
The buzz has been palpable to say the least if you read social media everyday like a bad habit. It’s a sight to behold for those that are taking this situation way too seriously and let it run their lives all over the internet.
Harbaugh has reportedly been on vacation in California after a dreary 2-4 COVID-19 riddled campaign. Now he is expected to clear up his contract at Michigan with an extension or there’s a slim chance that he moves on to the NFL. From the looks of things it’s leaning towards him staying and signing an extension to remain in Ann Arbor.
That is not sitting well with some folks because they have no patience for losing and don’t look at where this program was when he took over for Brady Hoke back in the day.
Time for some patience
Harbaugh has compiled almost 50 wins in six years, something Hoke and Rich Rodriguez couldn’t even combine for. Not beating Ohio State and going .500 against Michigan State is a problem that must be rectified quickly.
Michigan football fans need to realize that U-M is not an elite program like almost every other school in the nation is besides about three of them.
Expectations are astronomically high every year only to be brought back to earth when the sky starts falling after a loss. Until they prove it on the field at a consistent basis a lot of impatient folks need to learn to simmer down or get off the bandwagon and ruin another fanbase.
Another factor that has plagued Harbaugh is the lack of a NFL caliber quarterback. Jake Rudock is the only one on a current NFL roster and led the Wolverines to a 10 win season in his first year.
With J.J. McCarthy on his way it would be very wise to take a wait and see approach as to how the highly coveted prospect develops over the next three to four years to see if he can shift the balance of power.
As Aaron Rodgers once said to a fiery Packer fanbase “R-E-L-A-X.” It takes time to win in any sport and nothing in life can be made successful overnight.
Having patience is a precious virtue nowadays and hoping that Warde Manuel will do what is best for Michigan in the long run is the one thing that everyone can agree on.
