More than one Michigan football commitment in 2021 has come out and publicly endorsed head coach Jim Harbaugh in the last two days.

No matter what you believe about what’s going on behind the scenes with Michigan football and Jim Harbaugh, one thing is that a number of recruits are still buying what he’s selling.

And right now for Michigan football, that’s probably as important as anything.

While the rumors surrounding Harbaugh have been rampant over the past two weeks, things really picked up this weekend as word spread that Michigan and its head coach were on the verge of a three-year contract extension.

That came on the heels of a report last Friday that Harbaugh was telling recruits he wasn’t sure if he would be in back in Ann Arbor, which is something the coach quickly said was not true.

From the reaction of recruits, it does appear that the head man is going to stay in Ann Arbor as he got public support from two 2021 commits.

The first was from three-star wideout Andrel Anthony, who other programs, Michigan State included, have been trying to flip. He affirmed he will sign with the Wolverines on Dec. 16 and then made this declaration about his belief in Harbaugh.

That sounds like someone very committed to the program and a head coach. More than the rumors, that tells you what Harbaugh is telling recruits directly. And even though Michigan football missed out on Isaac Thompson last week, Jim fought until the end, which makes you think he’s not eying the NFL as a report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk suggested Sunday.

If Harbaugh stays, can Michigan football hold onto commitments?

This has been the big question for the Wolverines with signing day just nine days away. It’s why if an extension is coming for Harbaugh, I would expect it to happen this week, which could allow the Wolverines a chance to save recruits such as Xavier Worthy, who is considering Bama too.

Worthy was solid to Michigan football before the uncertainty. It might be too late to keep his commitment, but the decision is coming Dec. 16 and if there is solid word about a new deal for Harbaugh this week, U-M will at least have a fighting chance.

Quarterback J.J. McCarthy hasn’t shown any signs of wavering and also on Monday, The Michigan Insider ($) published an interview with four-star offensive tackle commit Tristan Bounds who said, “I am a firm believer that (Jim Harbaugh) can and will win there and am excited to get on campus and help get that done.”

That’s a promising sign for Michigan fans and outside of a few targets, mainly Worthy, there is reason to believe that if Harbaugh does get a deal, many commits will stick in the 2021 class.

Stay tuned though, because the way things have been going, information is changing quickly, but right now, it would be a surprise if an extension wasn’t done by the end of the week.
