3. Recruiting

We all know that recruiting is the lifeblood of any successful college football program and while Harbaugh has been a little up and down on the trail, he’s been hitting his stride.

In the 2021 class, Harbaugh landed five-star quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who remains solidly committed to the Wolverines despite their struggles. He’s the future and he’s the kind of player who can single-handedly change the fortunes of a program.

Firing Harbaugh right now or at the end of the season could risk McCarthy’s commitment and the commitments of others in the 2021 class. Plus, despite getting blown out this past weekend, Michigan football hosted a number of recruits on self-guided visits and are now being projected to land Will Johnson, the top player in Michigan in 2022.

Domani Jackson, the No.3 player in the 2022 class could also have some crystal ball projections coming in soon, so even though the play on the field has been an issue, the recruiting might be good enough to keep Harbaugh afloat.
