The Michigan football team was dominated by Wisconsin Saturday night, but so far it hasn’t dampened a big weekend of recruiting for the Wolverines.

While things on the field didn’t necessarily goes as planned for Michigan football against Wisconsin, it was a huge weekend for recruiting and by all accounts, that still went well.

Even though recruits aren’t allowed to take official visits and won’t be able to until April at the earliest, more than 20 commits/targets were in Ann Arbor this past weekend according to Steve Wilftong of 247 sports (subscription required).

The weekend was organized in large part by five-star quarterback J.J. McCarthy who is committed in the 2021 class. So there was a mix of guys who are committed in 2021, as well as some targets in 2022 such as elite corners Domani Jackson and Will Johnson who are pictured below in Ann Arbor.

Despite the loss, there were some really positive vibes coming out of the weekend for Michigan football, especially with Jackson and Johnson, two of the top three corners in the nation in 2022.

Those two recruits are likely at the top of Michigan’s board in 2022 and there has been talk about the two of them coming as a package deal, which the Wolveirnes tried to play on with this grapic.

Jackson who is from California and plays at Mater Dei, the same school as 2021 wide receiver commit Christian Dixon, has called Michigan his dream school before, however, he recently picked up some crystal ball projections to Ohio State.

Yet, when Wiltfong caught up with Jackson and broke down the weekend and the No. 3 prospect gave off good vibes about Michigan. There are even some rumors that a change in crystal balls could be coming as USC and Ohio State are the only two schools with picks right now.

We’ll see how that impacts Johnson, but if Michigan was somehow able to bring in Domani Jackson, it would be one of the biggest recruiting wins in Jim Harbaugh’s career.

Michigan football trending with top 2022 target

In his tweet, Wiltfong talks about the momentum Michigan football has on the recruiting trail right now and it appears that the 2022 class could be adding a commitment soon.

That recruit is four-star safety Isaac Thompson, who was among those visiting on their own in Ann Arbor over the weekend.

Thompson is ranked as the No. 146 player overall in the 247 composite rankings for 2022 and he is the No. 16 safety. He picked up an expert pick from EJ Holland of Rivals a couple of weeks back and now, all of his crystal ball projections have him going to Michigan football too.

The 6-foot-1 prospect out of St. Louis, Missouri also announced that he would be making his decision Dec. 4, literally just a day after he completed his visit to Ann Arbor.

Michigan football was already considered the leader at that point and it appears the self-guided visit went well, which could mean U-M lands a top target here in a just a few weeks.

So even though the play on the field has taken an obvious step back in 2020, at least so far, it hasn’t made a huge dent in the recruiting operation.
