If Michigan football is going to turn things around, this weekend would be a good place to start especially with some elite recruits in town.

It doesn’t take a genius to know that the best thing Michigan football can do from a recruiting perspective is start winning some games, beginning with Wisconsin Saturday night.

The 13th-ranked Badgers will invade the Big House for a Saturday night matchup that felt like a marquee game a few weeks ago. Some thought it would be a battle of unbeatens.

However, two weeks of being off the field for Wisconsin and back-to-back losses for the Wolverines changed that idea. And since then, U-M has also missed out on Rayshaun Benny and lost a considerable amount of momentum with its recruiting efforts.

Yet, this weekend is a chance to swing the pendulum back in the Wolverines direction as not only are the Badgers in town — a number of elite recruiting prospects will be too.

It will be similar to what Michigan football had going with recruits during the Michigan State game. Several targets in 2021 and some in 2022 will be taking self-guided tours and meeting up to get to know each other. They can also get a chance tour the stadium and campus.

It’s not an official visit but it’s the next best thing and there are going to be some heavy hitters in attendance, namely elite 2022 recruits Will Johnson and Domani Jackson.

What these visits could mean for Michigan football?

Jackson and Johnson aren’t the only recruits on the docket for this weekend as some others from the 2021 class are also supposed to be in attendance along with some 2022 recruits.

However, Jackson and Johnson are probably the main focus as two of the top three cornerbacks in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings.

While Jackson has started trending with crystal ball projections to Ohio State and also USC in the past month or so, the California prospect is still taking the time to visit Michigan football on his own, which is a solid sign for the Wolverines.

Johnson, on the other hand, is a top recruit in the state of Michigan, and is probably one of the top priorities for the 2022 class. Yet, there has been a worry about him and Jackson both going to Ohio State, so the Wolverines could really use a good showing on the field.

With top targets in town, laying another egg would be about the worst thing the Wolverines could do, especially as it would only lead to more talk about the departure of head coach Jim Harbaugh.

And while fans may want that, at least in the short term, all the questions make it hard for him to recruit.
