Breaking down a big week in Michigan Football recruiting
There was big news on multiple fronts for Michigan football recruiting this week and here’s a breakdown of everything that happened.
Some weeks are slower than others when it comes to Michigan football recruiting and on the heels of a few slow weeks, things picked up considerably.
The first big tidbit of the week came when four-star defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny announced that he would be making his college decision on Oct. 25, which is next Sunday, one week.
I’ll have more on Benny later, but as one of Michigan football’s top targets in this cycle, that was huge news all by itself. But then, it sort of got pushed to the side by two commitments.
Both of them were unexpected and at the start of the week, few, if anyone would have guessed that Michigan would land a commitment from graduate transfer Willie Allen, a former four-star offensive tackle who was once committed to LSU and one from elite 2021 LB Branden Jennings.
Jennings recently decommitted from Florida State and a few days after making that known, he announced his commitment to the Wolverines Friday, which is analyzed here.
The addition of Allen, who won’t be eligible until the 2021 season, has some nice advantages and you can read more on that here. But landing Jennings was the real prize this week as the four-star linebacker from Florida is now the Wolverines top-ranked commit on defense.
If Michigan was able to land Jennings and Benny within about a week of each other, that would add some considerable momentum, as well as defensive talent to the 2021 class.
Yet, the confidence surrounding the recruitment of Benny seems to be wavering and that’s where we will start this week’s breakdown.
