3 Recruits Michigan Football can flip in the 2021 class
Michigan football is actively trying to flip a number of committed recruits in the 2021 class but here are three that can actually be achieved.
For months now, recruiting experts have been talking about how they expect more recruits to flip their commitments this cycle and if Michigan football has its way, two or three will do so in favor of the Wolverines.
Right now, Michigan football is sitting with 20 total commitments. Four-star defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny is set to decide soon. Four-star running back Donovan Edwards and George Rooks will also decide in the coming months.
Those are the top three priorities for Michigan recruiting in 2021, but even if all three committed and it seems more likely that U-M will get two out of three, that would still leave the Wolverines with three to four spots and needs at safety, corner and defensive tackle.
If Michigan is able to land Benny, it would have one defensive tackle, one safety commit in Rod Moore and one cornerback commit in Ja’Den McBurrows.
Defensive tackle was a big need and so you’d expect the Wolverines to push for another commitment there if they aren’t able to land both Benny and Rooks.
In terms of recruits committed elsewhere, Michigan has picked up their pursuit of some in recent weeks, starting with Florida State commit Omarion Cooper.
The Wolverines haven’t stopped recruiting Cooper since he committed to Florida State and he told Brice Marich of the Michigan Insider ($) over the weekend that he talks to U-M on a daily basis:
"“We text everyday. I text Coach Harbaugh, Coach Zordich and Coach Brown. We still contact each other a lot. (I mainly talk with) Coach Zordich and Coach Brown. They know their schemes well, they know football and they’re just great coaches."
Since Florida State is struggling right now and Cooper feels like a great fit in the Wolverines scheme it makes sense. However, there is the still the issue that Cooper hasn’t visited Ann Arbor and won’t be able to before he flipped his decision if he did.
He’s from the state of Florida and obviously has more familiarity with the Seminoles. That doesn’t mean it can’t be done but there are obstacles even if the on-field product makes FSU a target.
While Cooper is a logical flip and one of the three most likely, here are two others that Michigan probably has a better chance of stealing away from their current school.
