3 Reasons Michigan Football will have an elite defense in 2020
Salt and Pepper
One thing that you need in order to be elite on defense is a dominant pass rush. Make no mistake, Brown is great at scheming up sacks and the Wolverines always find a way to get numbers there.
However, against Ohio State the past two years it hasn’t worked. That’s because talent will always win out over scheme. It’s about the Billy’s and the Joe’s not the X’s and the O’s.
But on the defensive line, Michigan has some dudes and some big-time dudes at that in Kwity Paye and Aidan Hutchinson.
With both of them on the edge, it seems likely that Michigan will play more four-man fronts this season and people worried about defensive tackle are forgetting that Chris Hinton is going to be a player. Carlo Kemp is pretty salty too.
But Paye and Hutchinson could be the best defensive end duo in the Big Ten, possibly even the country. Paye just went in the top 10 of a recent NFL mock draft and Hutchinson is drawing comparisons to Nick and Joey Bosa.
Last year, the two combined for 10 sacks, which is a number that will shoot up in 2020. And even though the depth may not be proven, there is talent there too and as long has Michigan has Paye and Hutchinson, its defensive line will be a problem.
