Michigan Football: Ranking 2020 opponents by difficulty

8. @ Rutgers – November 21st

The Scarlet Knights have brought back former coach Greg Schiano and from all accounts he is doing a great job trying to build back up the Rutgers football team. But even a miracle worker could not make this team a threat this year.

Rutgers looked basically lifeless last year and the Wolverines took full advantage of it winning 52-0. The thing is that wasn’t even the worst loss in the series. Michigan beat the Scarlet Knights 78-0 in 2016. Last year Joe Milton even got into the box score with a touchdown run.

Look, Rutgers should be better and the Wolverines have some question marks but this shouldn’t be a tough game. The only thing that could happen is that Michigan is caught looking ahead to Penn State, but even then this will be an easy win for the Wolverines.

7. vs Maryland – December 5th

Maryland looked poised to take the next step last year after two games and a top 25 ranking, but then they completely fell off the map and forgot how to play. Injuries did take a toll but it looked like this team just quit during most of their games.

The Terrapins do have one of their top receivers back in Jeshaun Jones after missing last year with a torn ACL, but it shouldn’t matter. Michigan is the better team and it will show. The Terrapins might be able to score more points this year, but their defense is still not very good and Michigan football teams under Jim Harbaugh have feasted on lesser opponents.

This game may be close for a quarter, but Michigan shouldn’t have much trouble as they get ready for The Game.
