Michigan football may end up taking just three wide receivers in the 2021 recruiting class as a top target is being projected elsewhere.

When Michigan football lost the commitment of wide receiver Markus Allen a couple of weeks ago, there was hope that the Wolverines could get back into the mix for some other recruits.

One of the most well-known targets at wide receiver in the 2021 class for Michigan, has been four-star wideout Jayden Thomas, who is ranked 260th overall and 45th among wide receivers according to the 247 sports composite rankings.

At one time, Michigan football appeared to be a favorite with Thomas, who not only wants to play college football, but baseball as well. The Wolverines baseball staff was really high on him and he was going to be given the chance to do both at U-M.

Others have offered that chance too and now, even though a wide receiver spot opened up, Thomas doesn’t seem likely to fill it.

Michigan football has stayed in contact since the commitment of Andrel Anthony and the Wolverines still sent out an official scholarship offer. Yet, on Thursday, EJ Holland offered an update on Thomas ($) and it wasn’t all that promising.

"“Many assumed that Michigan would once again make a strong run Jayden Thomas. While there has been contact, I’m not sure there is too much there right now. Thomas has never visited Michigan, and a decision could be coming soon. I’ve gone ahead and put in a FutureCast pick for Notre Dame. I’m told that Michigan is very happy with its trio of wide receiver commits, so there is very much a possibility that U-M does not take another player at the position.”"

It’s good to know the staff is happy with their wide receiver haul and they should be. Xavier Worthy has five-star talent, while Christian Dixon and Anthony are talented guys with size.

But it doesn’t look like Thomas will be added to the mix. He also has a pair of crystal ball projections sending him to Notre Dame with a confidence level of eight on a scale of 1-10.

Titus Mokiao-Atimalala is a name to watch though according to Holland. Michigan football has recruited him as a both a safety and wide receiver. The Hawaii native is also friends with current Wolverines wide receiver Roman Wilson.

The four-star athlete also has crystal ball projections to Notre Dame, but Holland reports that he’s willing to wait until February to make a call and if U-M can get him on a visit, who knows?
