Michigan Football: 5 Thoughts on wild week of recruiting for Wolverines
What’s next after Markus Allen decommits
It’s hard to say exactly what happened with Markus Allen and why things ended up souring with Michigan, but from all I’ve read, this one is over
EJ Holland has speculated that it could have something to do with the shoulder injury Allen suffered. In this edition of Wolverine TV, Holland said the last time he went to see Allen, the wideout wasn’t supposed to practice. Then EJ saw him practicing.
Allen was also supposed to enroll early so it seems there could have been disagreement on him continuing to play instead of opting for surgery.
Regardless, it’s a blow. Allen may be a three-star receiver in the 247 composite, yet I fully expect him to get a bump. He’s not even 17 yet and he’s a beast.
But that recruitment is over now and Michigan will likely turn back to four-star wideout Jayden Thomas. Like Dunlap, the Wolverines sent an official offer, even though the numbers situation was dicey. Now, as with Dunlap, that looks like a really good move.
Thomas has a couple of crystal ball picks to Notre Dame, but those came in after the Wolverines added a fourth wide receiver commit. Now, it’s back down to three and Thomas always had a strong interest in football and baseball at U-M.
If the Wolverines can turn this back into a Michigan-Notre Dame recruiting battle, this will be a winnable recruitment, especially with the baseball aspect on Michigan’s side.
