Michigan basketball is without a five-star during the Juwan Howard era. It’s still early, however, and the staff is nearing its first superstar.

It’s no secret. Michigan basketball is in dire need of a big man to backup Hunter Dickinson in 2021, assuming Hunter isn’t a one-and-done. The 2021 class is almost filled to the brim, which means there’s one spot left to find a 7-footer worthy of immediate playing time once next season rolls around.

Or is there?

If Chaundee Brown doesn’t get a waiver, Juwan Howard and Co. are staring down a roster that has 12 scholarships filled for the 2021-22 season. While there’s no news on the waiver front other than Michigan might not have submitted the paperwork just yet, more and more players are learning they will be playing next year.

David DeJulius and Colin Castleton both will be participating in activities in 2020. Which means Brown should have no problem once his case is reviewed.

If that is the case, Howard could have two or three more recruits – if someone transfers out –  to add to the 2021 class on scholarship. While there is a possibility Juwan goes after a starter from the transfer portal to fill a role, it’s also possible he goes really young.

Howard knows a bunch of freshmen can shock the world.

While he might not have a group of prospects as talented as the Fab Five, he does have the fifth-highest rank class, and it’s still growing. And if a five-star, or two, fills the ranks, Howard could bring the class into the top three or top two in the country.

Here are six prospects the Wolverines have a realistic chance at landing.
