Michigan basketball transfer guard David DeJulius has been granted his waiver and will be immediately eligible to play this upcoming season for the Cincinnati Bearcats.

David DeJulius shocked the Michigan basketball fan base when he announced his intentions to transfer back in April.

Now, according to a report from Chad Brendel of BearcatJournal.com, he will be able to play right away for Cincinnati next season.

DeJulius spent his sophomore season last year backing up both guard spots for the Wolverines. He averaged 7 PPG in 20 minutes off the bench.

Even though those numbers don’t jump out at you, DeJulius brought energy, quick offense, and intensity off the bench countless times for Michigan basketball last season.

He scored in double figures 11 times last season for the Wolverines including a season-high 20 points against Maryland in the final game of the season.

The transfer was so shocking because many thought he was the favorite to win the starting PG battle this season. Now with the waiver to play next season, DeJulius will have another shot to prove that he is ready to be an effective starting point guard.

What does this mean for Michigan basketball?

David DeJulius was a fan favorite among most Michigan basketball fans, so it is great to hear that he will be able to contribute to Cincinnati right away this season.

But this could also be great news for Michigan as they are seeking a waiver of their own for transfer guard Chaundee Brown.

According to Brendan Quinn of The Athletic, Michigan still has not formally submitted its waiver request to the NCAA for Chaundee Brown. That will happen in the coming weeks.

Based on the David Dejulius news and so many others getting their waivers during this time, there’s no reason to believe Chaundee Brown will not also be given his.

Next. Way too early depth chart prediction. dark

If Chaundee is able to play next season as I expect, he will provide Michigan with much-needed guard depth and will battle against Eli Brooks for the starting SG spot. We will continue to provide updates as the waiver process gets underway.
