Michigan Football: Wolverines pushing with elite 2021 corner
Michigan football is short on cornerback targets in the 2021 recruiting class and Jim Harbaugh connected with a top-100 corner this week.
Michigan football‘s 2021 recruiting class is very good and right now, it’s hard to find much to complain about with the Wolverines 21-man haul.
Of course, there is still work to be done and if there is a complaint, it’s that some position needs still haven’t been adequately addressed.
The Wolverines still haven’t added a running back, a defensive tackle and as of now, Michigan has just one cornerback commitment too.
However, Jim Harbaugh and the company are hoping to change that and the best chance to add a top-flight corner in 2021 lies with Ceyair Wright, a top-100 recruit out of Los Angeles.

Wright is 6-foot-1, 175 pounds and he’s 69th overall in the 2021 class according to the 247 composite rankings, as well as fifth among corners. His recruitment is also wide open.
Michigan football is among the contenders though and according to EJ Holland of Rivals ($), Harbaugh spoke with Wright earlier this week. The topic was mostly on the Big Ten season getting canceled, but the reports are that it went well. Wright plans to play spring football in California too.
Notre Dame, USC, Nebraska, Oregon, Stanford and Utah are the other contenders and while Holland speculated that Wright would stay out West, the list of teams isn’t overly intimidating.
Don’t get me wrong, Wright is in USC’s backyard and it feels like the Trojans should be the favorite, however, there still aren’t any crystal ball or Futurecast predictions.
Wright has said Michigan is talking to him as much as any other school but the key is going to be getting him in for a visit. Unless that happens, actually landing Wright will be a longshot.
Michigan needs another DB
Outside of Wright, the Wolverines don’t have many options on the board in 2021. Kamari Lassiter was offered recently and he’s out of Alabama, but already has an Auburn crystal ball.
John Howse IV is another name that came up this week, but it’s hard to tell if Michigan is a player in that recruitment either. It sounds like there is still some contact but doesn’t really feel like a realistic option unless there is a push we don’t know about.
The reality is that Wright might be Michigan’s best option for getting an elite recruit into the 2021 class or adding another cornerback at all.
