It’s clear that Michigan football doesn’t feel good about its recruiting board at corner in 2021 and that resulted in a new offer going out Tuesday.

The bottom line for Michigan football is that things haven’t really gone as planned in terms of recruiting cornerbacks in the 2021 class.

The lone victory right now is with three-star corner Ja’Den McBurrows out of Florida and in addition to trying to keep him in the fold, the Wolverines are still looking for that second corner.

It looked like it might be three-star athlete Kamonte Grimes out of Florida, who Michigan football was recruiting as a defensive back who could possibly play viper down the road.

In the end, Grimes sided with Nebraska, which wants him to play offense, over the weekend, leaving the Wolverines with an even thinner board at cornerback.

Well on Tuesday, a new target was added as Michigan football extended an offer to Kamari Lassiter, a three-star cornerback out of Alabama.

Lassiter is listed at 6-foot and 180 pounds. He’s ranked as the No. 24 cornerback in the 2021 class and No. 352 overall. Lassiter announced the Michigan offer on Twitter.

What are Michigan football’s chances?

The fact that the offer comes two days after Grimes committed to Nebraska tells you the staff doesn’t feel like it’s in a strong position with Ceyair Wright, a four-star corner out of California.

So the offer to Lassiter is interesting and it makes you think that it might not be the last one to go out to a 2021 cornerback.

In terms of what Lassiter brings to the table, he has good size and much of his highlights focus on his time playing wide receiver. However, he shows a nice backpedal, and maybe because he plays offense, he tracks the ball really well.

The issue for Michigan is the fact that its getting involved in this recruitment so late. Lassiter has just one crystal ball projection right now for Auburn, but the Tigers aren’t the only SEC team in the mix as Georgia is right there. The three-star recruit also recently landed an offer from Clemson.

Rod Mackenize touched on Lassiter ($) who is also getting recruited by Georgia Tech. Writing for 247 sports, that he expects a decision within the month. He also noted that Georgia and Auburn have legit interest.

That could make it tough to land Lassiter but the Wolverines are at least smart enough to expand their board at cornerback, although an offer to Maxwell Hairston, a month or so ago, might have been a better idea.
