The latest on one of Michigan football’s top targets left in 2021, cornerback Ceyair Wright, plus the Wolverines offer an Ohio State commit in 2022.

While Michigan football has done a great job during the 2021 recruiting cycle, especially during this dead period, one position that still needs more bodies is cornerback.

I guess you could say the secondary as a whole. Rod Moore was a solid get at safety and I really like three-star corner Ja’Den McBurrows too. He’s a Michigan football kind of corner, aggressive and very good in man-to-man coverage.

Yet, one cornerback or two defensive backs total, just isn’t enough. That’s one reason Kamonte Grimes could make sense for Michigan, because he potentially could play safety or corner.

But when it comes to pure corners, no one left on Michigan’s board is better than Ceyair Wright, a four-star corner ranked 71st in the 247 composite rankings.

Wright, who is from Los Angeles, would seem like a top target for USC, but when he talked to Greg Biggins of 247 sports this week, the Trojans weren’t in the first group of teams mentioned:

"“I talk the most with Utah, Arizona State, Michigan, Oregon and Nebraska,” Wright said. “You can throw in Notre Dame, USC and Stanford too and there are some others but those are the most recent schools I’ve talked with so they’re a little more fresh in my head.”"

Wright said Nebraska has been the most consistent school but with him. Michigan has been coming on strong and Wright also told Biggins he plans to announce his commitment at the All-American Bowl in January, meaning this race is far from over.

Darion Green-Warren’s recruitment played out in a similar fashion in 2020, with the Wolverines landing a late commitment and maybe things will work out the same way with Wright.

Michigan football offers Ohio State commit

Like any program, Michigan puts out offers just about every day. But on Monday, there was one of note as the Wolverines extended an offer to four-star corner in 2022, Jyaire Brown.

Brown is one of the top corners in the 2022 class and the 6-foot defender is ranked 113th overall by the 247 composite rankings. He also committed to Ohio State back in April.

The corner has picked up a slew of offers since committing to the Buckeyes back in April and after Ohio State went into Louisiana and nabbed him, he decided to play his senior season in Ohio. He’s originally from Cincinnati.

It’s a name to watch in 2022, but it’s hard to feel to bullish on the prospects of flipping Brown. Anything is possible but I wouldn’t consider it likely.
