Point guard

In his first season as head coach, Howard was blessed to have Zavier Simpson as his point guard. That undoubtedly made the transition easier and helped Michigan be in a position to make the NCAA tournament had it happened.

Now, the Wolverines need their point guard of the future. Incoming freshman Zeb Jackson is one candidate to hold down the role in the future, another could be 2021 five-star Jalen Warley.

Like Reid and Bediako, Warley is a five-star in the 20 range, ranking 23rd overall in the 247 composite. Warley has a strong connection to assistant coach Phil Martelli and even though the Wolverines made his top five, they are likely in his top 2-3.

Louisville, Maryland, Florida State and Oregon, the other leading contender with Michigan, appear to be the schools pushing for Warley the hardest and of that group, it’s easy to see the Wolverines coming away with the recruit from Norristown, PA.

Of all the guys on the board for Michigan basketball, Warley has to be the top guy in terms of talent and attainability. Chet Holmgren seems like a pipedream, while landing Warley is a very realistic possibility.

If not Warley, Angelo Brizzi, who put Michigan in his top eight Tuesday night, is another candidate to watch for at point guard.
