A rim-protecting center

One thing Michigan basketball is lacking heading into the 2020-21 season is a clear rim protector. Jon Teske had been that guy and Colin Castleton had a lot of promise as a replacement before he transferred.

Incoming freshman Hunter Dickinson is a tremendous low-post scorer, but he doesn’t offer a ton in terms of protecting the rim. So, that has to be a priority for the Wolverines and Charles Bediako may be the most realistic target.

Bediako is ranked 20th overall in 2021 via the 247 sports composite and the 6-foot-11 center recently included Michigan basketball among his top 10. He’s going to play at IMG Academy this season, but is from Canada, which could give Michigan an edge.

Efton Reid is another five-star big man to watch, but he’s more skilled as an offensive player than on the defensive end. That’s why I’d prefer Bediako. Either way, Michigan needs a more traditional big to pair with Tschetter and in the ideal world, Bediako is the perfect fit.
