Michigan Football: Wolverines still after elite CB, offer top 2022 DT
Michigan football is still pushing hard for one of the top cornerbacks in the 2021 class, plus another 2022 defensive line offer for the Wolverines.
As far as the 2021 recruiting class is concerned for Michigan football, the remaining spots are running thin and one area that continues to be a focus is cornerback.
Right now, Michigan football only has one corner committed as part of its 2021 class and that’s three-star Ja’Den McBurrows out of Florida. He’s a solid prospect and is a really good man-coverage corner, which will make him an ideal fit for the Wolverines.
However, Michigan surely wants to add more than one cornerback in its class and the Wolverines have been after several others, including versatile athlete Kamonte Grimes, who has been projected by Rivals’ expert EJ Holland to the Wolverines. Grimes is being recruited as a corner/safety/viper.

In terms of a pure corner, no one left on Michigan’s 2021 board is better than four-star Ceyair Wright out of California. Wright is 6-foot-1 and he’s a big-time player, ranking 72nd in the 247 composite rankings for 2021. He’s also the fifth-ranked corner and No. 8 player in the state of California.
Wright doesn’t have any crystal ball predictions yet from 247 sports and he has only a couple of projections from Rivals, but both have him going to USC, which would make sense. The Trojans have sort of been viewed as the favorite all along, among 36 total offers from all over the country.
That hasn’t stopped Michigan football from pursuing Wright hard though as the corner told the Michigan Insider ($) he recently had a Facetime meeting with Michigan coaches. Wright also indicated he’d be open to taking an official visit when that’s possible again.
If that happens, you’d have to put Michigan right in the mix for Wright. At this moment though, he seems more likely to stay on the west coast, yet his recruitment is well worth watching.
Michigan football offers elite DT in 2022
The coaching staff has been really active in the 2022 class already for the Wolverines and that has them looking in really good shape with some key recruitments early. Tuesday, Michigan entered the mix for another big-name and that’s Iowa defensive tackle Caden Curry.
The Wolverines seem intent on loading up on defensive lineman in 2022, especially defensive tackles and the 6-foot-5, 250-pound Curry would certainly fit the bill. U-M joined a growing list of programs that includes Alabama, Wisconsin and Michigan State along with Iowa. Curry was a dominant force last season as a high school sophomore, notching 100 tackles, 26.5 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks.
Watching his highlights, you can see Curry is more than just a run stuffer. He’s an active defender who also deflected six passes, showing off his length and athleticism. At times, he even looks like a defensive end the way he’s able to pressure the quarterback.
He lines up mostly as a three-technique and in that spot, he’s nearly unblockable, which is why he ranks as the top high school recruit in Iowa for 2022. Depending on how his body fills out, he could be a five-technique too.
Regardless of the position Curry plays, he’s the No. 134 prospect in 2022 according to 247 sports and the No. 4 defensive tackle. Curry told the Michigan Insider ($) he was interested in visiting and also mentioned the NFL success of Wolverine defensive lineman.
That leads you to believe Michigan football will have a legit shot here and that’s exciting when you see what Curry can do on the field.
