Final thoughts

First, there seems to be a prevailing narrative that the 2020 cycle has closed, and that’s simply not the case. With Nojel Eastern headed elsewhere, Michigan basketball still has an open scholarship for whoever is willing to take it.

One candidate is Efton Reid, who is currently a part of the 2021 cycle, but he hasn’t ruled out reclassifying. Reid played with Michigan commits Hunter Dickinson and Terrance Williams on Team Takeover, and he’s talked with the staff extensively. Efton is a five-star and ranked 21st nationally.

One the Isaiah Livers front, there is no news, but that’s not uncommon. Dates for the NBA draft and combine have fluctuated, and with that comes extended deadlines for college basketball players to make a final declaration or remove their name from consideration.

The NCAA release from earlier this month set a semi-firm date and to when a declaration must be made.

“Men’s basketball student-athletes will have until 10 days after the NBA draft combine or Aug. 3, whichever comes first, to withdraw from the postponed 2020 NBA draft and retain their eligibility.” the statement read.

Livers has a shot if a team wants to take a chance, but his overall outlook is gloomy, at least according to several evaluators. Isaiah’s injury, the shortened season, and a lack of multi-years as a starter are certainly a consideration for him and NBA scouts.
