Michigan basketball is on the hunt for Efton Reid, a 2021 prospect that could reclassify. Will he join the 2020 Wolverine class?

Michigan basketball already has a highly regarded recruiting class for 2020. Center Hunter Dickinson anchors the group that’s ranked 13th in the nation. At 7-foot-2, Dickinson is a four-star and a borderline five-star with a 9847 composite rating.

There’s also shooting guard Zeb Jackson and forward Terrance Williams, both in the top 100 and both will see time early on. Finally, there’s Jace Howard, a three-star wing from the prominent University School in Florida and son of head coach Juwan Howard. Jace is going to surprise some people.

Efton Reid is a coveted five-star. Could he join the Michigan’s 2020 class?

As it stands today, Efton Reid is a member of the 2021 class and one of the most coveted recruits for next year. 247 sports’ composite rankings have him as a five-star and No. 20 nationally with a .9915 rating.

Should he move up, his ratings and rankings may drop, but it won’t matter, Efton is as good as they come and he could easily make the switch to forward to compliment Dickinson.

Will he make the jump? It’s possible considering he spoke about it in an interview.

“I talked about it in the Zoom call with Coach Howard, my mom, Coach Martelli, and the other coaches,” Reid recalled. “Coach Juwan was like, ‘whatever decision you make, we want you in both classes. I could go potentially in ‘20, but I don’t know right now. So, I’m still in the ‘21 class, but they definitely want me for both classes basically.“

Jerry Meyer from 247 sports with the evaluation:

"Has NBA center size. Game is skill based and not athletically based. Has good footwork and touch in post. Can stretch defense to three-point line. Comfortable with the ball as a passer. Has good hands and rebounds his area. Not a big shot blocker. Positional defender inside. Needs to improve quickness to defend on perimeter."

It’s true, there isn’t any room and it doesn’t seem Reid would mix with the personnel on hand, those incoming, and with the transfers. It’s just another piece that doesn’t fit in the puzzle.

Although, that might not be the case as we move closer to fall. If Isaiah Livers jumps ship and Nojel Eastern, whose name remains on the NBA draft board, never becomes a Wolverine, there will a spot for the big man from Virginia.

Juwan might not need Reid for next year, but it couldn’t hurt to add a huge prospect to the already spectacular 2020 squad. It would be a huge get for Juwan considering the tough offseason that saw two five stars expected to pick Ann Arbor breakaway right when decision time came.
