Talent and fit is simply better

Peoples-Jones and Black are both NFL-caliber receivers in terms of talent, but they fit the old system better than the new one under Gattis. However, that’s not the case with Giles Jackson, Mike Sainristil and Cornelius Johnson who each caught touchdown passes as true freshmen last season.

Jackson, Sainristil and Ronnie Bell, who led the team in receptions last year, can all excel in the slot and give opposing defenses fits. Johnson is a bigger wideout at 6-foot-3. He has a huge ceiling so it wouldn’t be shocking to see him be the other starter on the outside.

On top of that, incoming freshmen A.J. Henning and Roman Wilson, two other four-star receivers will be joining the mix, while in the backfield, Michigan football gets four-star running back Blake Corum, a dual-threat and also Chris Evans. U-M also has Nick Eubanks and Erick All at tight end.

It’s going to be fun to watch defenses have to account for Jackson, Bell and others, while also paying close attention to Nico Collins and the dangerous group of backs.
