To be clear, no Michigan basketball fan should want David DeJulius to transfer. There is actually a chance he could be the starting point guard next season and at the very worst, he could be that energizer off the bench like he was this past season.

But after scoring seven points a game for the Wolverines in 2019-20, DeJulius might want a bigger role and honestly, it’s hard to blame him.

DeJulius saw significant time last season and played in 31 games, seeing double-digit minutes most every time he saw the floor. But there were times that it seemed like he could be playing more.

The sophomore was one of Michigan basketball’s best options in the pick-and-roll because of his ability to shoot and attack the basket. He reached double-figures in points 11 times. He also played 20 minutes or more just 16 times. Nine times, the guard made multiple 3-pointers.

There is no doubt that if he returns, he will have a role to play. But if Christopher winds up committing and he can’t beat out Eli Brooks, he would have to accept the same role as last season, which might make him consider taking his talents elsewhere, as much as every Michigan fan should hope he doesn’t, it’s a possibility.
