Special teams, play-calling, and analysis

Yes, that punt was blocked.

Special teams

Grade: B

Fantastic outing for the Wolverines specialty groups. Quinn Nordin was perfect for all eight of his kicks (three field goals/five extra points) and Will Hart boomed his only punt pinning MSU at their own 20.

Donovan’s fumble dropped the grade to a B, even though the game was out of hand by that point.

Play-calling

Grade: A

The first few minutes were terrifying when MSU took the early lead, but Josh Gattis and Don Brown quickly flipped the script with turnovers and touchdowns.

Gattis deserves a raise for his part in getting Patterson his first 300 passing yard game as a Wolverine.

Matt’s musings

The ‘little brother’ and ‘little sister’ comments came out in full force immediately following the contest and one Wolverine went as far as saying the Spartans didn’t ‘deserve’ to be in the Big House.

“I was telling them to go home, that it’s time for them to leave,” said Josh Metellus. “They didn’t deserve to be in our stadium.”

Some would call it rude or classless, but Michigan’s star defensive back would argue otherwise.

“I feel like we’re way more classier than them,” Metellus said. “They tried to take it to a level that wasn’t playing football. We play football over here. I don’t know what they do over there, but we play football, and it showed today.”

It’s all fun and games until, inevitably, the Spartans get a victory by blowing out the Wolverines and when that happens, these young men will truly understand the meaning behind the saying you reap what you sow.

But until then, enjoy the victory. And talk as much trash as you want, it’s a big rivalry win, after all.
