Michigan Football: 3 takeaways from Wolverines domination of MSU
By Nick Popio
Opportunistic Defense
Besides one great drive put together by the Spartans, Michigan’s defenders had a field day. They held Lewerke to 166 yards and lead back Elijah Collins to just 27 yards on 12 carries. It turned out to be another mediocre outing for Lewerke and Collins’ worst showing since Wisconsin. Cody White was the only Spartan to do anything close to good with 6 snags for 78 yards.
Next, the Wolverines defense will turn their attention towards two prolific offenses to close out the regular season. Indiana has given Michigan fits recently and that may happen again unless the defense can keep things under wraps in Bloomington next Saturday. The way Don Brown has his group currently executing though will be difficult for a Hoosier program that hasn’t beaten Michigan since 1987.
It will be a stern test for a unit that is going to be watched very closely over the final two weeks. Indiana will do everything in their arsenal to put the maize and blue on skates, something that they haven’t seen since the Penn State white out.
However, with all that being said Michigan football can savor this victory over Sparty for the next 365 days, with the all-important inevitable meeting looming in just 14 days.
