Patterson finally delivers for four quarters

A huge problem for Michigan football this season has been inconsistency and one of the worst culprits has been starting quarterback Shea Patterson.

Patterson was great in the second half and really over the last 2.5 quarters against Penn State, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was off to start the game, just as he was against Wisconsin.

In games like this, you can’t miss opportunities. The Wolverines put together promising opening drives at Penn State and Wisconsin, only to see both end without points. He missed an easy touchdown pass to Collins against the Badgers and Ben Mason fumbled on the next play.

The game was never the same after that. And last weekend had Michigan not fallen on its face out of the gate, it could have been driving for the win in the fourth quarter instead of desperately hoping to pull even.

A ton of criticism has been leveled at Patterson this season and rightfully so. Yet, he was gutsy and courageous in the second half last week and if he can play with that kind of fire for four quarters, Michigan football will beat Notre Dame. I have no doubt about it.
