Michigan Football: 3 breakout candidates for Wolverines in 2019
By Nick Popio
Cam McGrone
McGrone is now entering his second year on campus. He’s reportedly flashed consistently in previous workouts. It’s quite easy to see why he seems to be a guy who keeps turning heads in practice.
He was a menace in high school and fits Don Brown’s system ideally. The four/five-star recruit just seems to be biding his time until he gets the word to get unleashed on opponents.
The linebacker corps, in general, is loaded with talent from top to bottom. That’s the only thing that may keep McGrone from showcasing his skills on a routine basis though, but the coaches are very aware of what he is capable of doing when given the opportunity. It has created a big stir for new coach Anthony Campanile and gives the new linebacker coach a wealth of compliments to deal with.
With the loss of Devin Bush, Josh Ross will get the first crack at replacing him, but McGrone doesn’t look like he is far behind him.
Jordan Anthony is another stud who might make some noise at the position as well in the fall. It’s a highly-touted group that has more than enough strength to arguably produce the next Bush. It wouldn’t be that far-fetched to watch McGrone become that type of playmaker over the next few campaigns.
