Zach Charbonnet

Zach Charbonnet won’t be a name that surprises people on this list. The four-star freshman running back, who is Michigan’s top offensive recruit in 2019, is expected to play a lot this season.

If Chris Evans was eligible to play, instead of being suspended for 2019, Charbonnet might have more work to do to see the field, but with Tru Wilson and Christian Turner as the only guys with experience, it’s wide open.

Wilson is going to see lots of snaps this season because he is reliable and can pass protect. But for my money, the best runner on this team is Charbonnet and that will become obvious soon into the 2019 season.

Michigan football hasn’t necessarily had that game-changing back since Harbaugh has arrived and Charbonnet could be it. He’s big, tough and physical. But he also has big-play ability and looks like a true 20-carry-game type of guy.

While he has been sharp in the early portions of camp, how he holds up with pads will be even more important. It’s hard to measure a running back after all if you can’t tackle him.
