The incompletes and non-impact guys

Zach Charbonnet: Incomplete

The bottom line is that not every player is going to make an impact right away. Four-star running back Zach Charbonnet was supposed to. In fact, it was thought that he would immediately challenge for the No. 1 job after being the top offensive recruit from the 2019 class for UM.

However, on Jim Harbaugh‘s first meeting with the media, the head coach announced that Charbonnet would miss the entire spring due to a scope. It doesn’t sound serious but it was disappointing.

Gabe Newburg: C-

When it comes to Newburg, he just didn’t seem to make a huge impact. The three-star defensive end that stands 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds still has a lot of upside but making the transition can be tough. We heard the names of a lot of incoming freshmen and saw some of them perform in the spring game Saturday but Newburg was somewhat invisible.

Of course, with little practice open to the public it’s hard to fully gauge how he did in each drill and everything. Certainly, he took some steps forward as a player but there was nothing to indicate he will play right away next season.
