Michigan football has been busy on the recruiting trail this week and Wednesday, they will visit Keilan Robinson in an effort to flip him from Alabama.

If it seems like the news surrounding Michigan football has been fast and furious this offseason, you aren’t alone. It has been a busy couple weeks for the Wolverines and with recruiting heating up, it doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

On Tuesday, we heard from head coach Jim Harbaugh and his new offensive coordinator Josh Gattis as the two spoke together on Harbaugh’s weekly podcast. There were some interesting revelations, such as the fact that Nick Saban wasn’t thrilled with Gattis’ departure.

Another tidbit was that Harbaugh first made his pitch to Gattis the morning he was eventually hired. Michigan football heard he was going to Maryland, so coach Harbaugh called and expressed interest. Soon after, a deal was done. So don’t tell me Jim doesn’t still have pull.

On the recruiting front, Michigan football was also busy. The Wolverines offered 7th-grade quarterback Isaiah Marshall a “scholarship” Tuesday and if you watch his highlights, you will see why. The kid is unreal. Still, it seems a little crazy to offer a kid not even in high school.

In terms of the 2019 recruiting class, Michigan is still doing some work, although most of the focus is on 2020 and beyond. But one guy the Wolverines are still pushing to add to their 2019 haul is St. John’s (Washington, D.C.) Keilan Robinson, a four-star running back committed to Alabama.

There have been rumblings about the Wolverines and their pursuit of Robinson, but Wednesday, according to the Michigan Insider, Michigan coaches will be in DC to visit Robinson, as well as some of his teammates because most of the top players in DC reside at St. Johns College High School. Michigan has already extended a few offers there.

Steve Lorenz, who reported the stop for 247 sports, said that Michigan coaches are going to check in on Robinson. Essentially, the Wolverines are going to see if they can get Robinson to come to Ann Arbor for a visit. That’s the next step and if they can do that, there is a legit chance of flipping him from Alabama.

National signing day is less than a month away, so Robinson will need to set up his visit soon. But if he visits campus, it will show he is serious and with Gattis, who was one of the coaches recruiting Robinson to Bama, now on staff, the chances of a flip seem even better.

On top of that, Michigan football made about a dozen offers to recruits Tuesday, with offers going out to kids in the 2020 and 2021 classes. There was a slew of in-state offers such as to running back Peny Boone of Detroit, a four-star in 2020.

Anthony Romphf, a three-star athlete/quarterback also got an offer from Michigan Tuesday. His offer was the 15th extended to in-state prospects for the 2020 class according to Brice Marich.

While Gattis is giving the Wolverines some good buzz on the recruiting trail, he should be able to help Michigan with 2020 four-star wide receiver Javian Hester. However, what might do more to land Hester is the fact that UM already has Daxton Hill.

Hester, who is the No. 80 player in the 2020 class and one of the top wideouts, said he is close with Hill according to Maize and Brew.  The two played high school football together and the 6-foot-3 Hester said he will be taking an official visit at some point to Ann Arbor.

As I said, there is a lot going on with Michigan football right now and it wouldn’t be shocking if the Wolverines announced a new defensive line coach soon. So stayed tuned on that and the recruiting front because you never know what’s around the corner these days.
