Michigan Football: 5 things we learned in Wolverines win over Penn State
The running game is on another level
While the defense and Patterson have both huge parts of this winning streak, the running game has been arguably just as important to the Wolverines success in the past three games. And Saturday against Penn State, Higdon ran wild again.
For the seventh straight game, Higdon ran for more than 100 yards, as he carried the ball 19 times for 132 yards and a touchdown. Higdon ripped off a long run on the opening drive and that seemed to set the tone for the offense all day. Patterson finished the drive with a touchdown run and that was that.
During this three-game gauntlet, Michigan football has averaged 255 yards per game on the ground, which is a drastic improvement from years past, when the Wolverines could never run the ball against good teams.
That’s not the case anymore. Higdon might be the best running back in the Big Ten and don’t look now, but when it comes to run blocking at least, the Wolverines have the league’s best offensive line too.
