Michigan Football: 5 things we learned in Wolverines win over Penn State
This defense is making Wolverines fans party like it’s 1997
Coming into the Penn State game, we already knew how good this Michigan defense was, but against arguably the best offense it has faced so far this season, we were reminded once again.
The Penn State running game was swallowed up, as the Nittany Lions managed just 68 yards. The Wolverines registered five sacks, they forced three turnovers, allowed 11 first downs and gave up just one touchdown, while scoring a touchdown of their own for the second time in three games.
What’s even more incredible is that Michigan has now allowed Wisconsin, Michigan State and Penn State to score just 27 points combined in the last three games, as well as an average of just 187 yards per game.
The win over Penn State also gave UM its third win over a top-25 team in as many weeks, which is something no Big Ten team has done just since the Wolverines did it back in 1997. That was also the last time Michigan had a defense this good and that year, the Wolverines went on to win the national championship.
