Michigan football: 3 takeaways from blowout win over Western Michigan
This win would feel better if Michigan was 2-0
Not to take anything away from the Wolverines, but no one cares that they beat Western Michigan 49-3. It’s what they are expected to do and until they win a big game, the most these games will get is shoulder shrugs.
Michigan football was sharp and after the way it performed last week, it should have been. Just don’t expect fans to be overly excited about another romp over a MAC opponent. That’s to be expected.
Now, if the Wolverines do the same to Nebraska or Northwestern when Big Ten play opens, that would be a different story. But even then, this team will face questions until it shows it can win games against teams that really matter.
This win was a good confidence builder. Patterson needed that and maybe the entire offense did too. Now, there is no excuse. SMU comes to town next week and then the quest for a Big Ten championship begins.
That’s the stated goal of this team and if Saturday showed us anything, it’s that championship potential exists for Michigan football but until it’s realized, that’s all it is — potential.
