Michigan football: 3 takeaways from blowout win over Western Michigan
Michigan can still dominate on defense
A lot of people started to worry about the Michigan defense after Notre Dame scored back-to-back touchdowns to open the season last week. Yet, since then, the Wolverines have allowed 13 points in seven quarters of football, so it’s probably safe to say Michigan is just fine defensively.
And say what you will about it being Western Michigan, but the Broncos have a legit offense. They managed over 600 yards a week ago against Syracuse, their quarterback is experienced, they have some speed and a pretty good offensive line, at least as far as the MAC is concerned.
Against Michigan football though, the Broncos found little room to operate. They rushed for just 123 yards and averaged 3.1 a carry. Jon Wassink was 16-of-34 for 85 yards and one interception. That’s a measly 2.5 yards per attempt. UM also sacked him twice and Rashan Gary, despite facing tons of blockers, finished with six tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and a QB hurry.
The Wolverines got just one turnover for the second straight week, which is something that could improve, but overall, it was a really good effort from the defense.
