The winner doesn’t matter in Bedlam or BIG title game, as long as its close

The first domino that needs to fall for Michigan football is a Washington loss. But if the Huskies do lose, does that wrap things up for the Wolverines?

I think it certainly gives them a strong chance, especially since Michigan will have wins over both the PAC-12 and BIG champions. Plus another win over a top-10 opponent (the loser of Penn State-Wisconsin).

That should be enough to keep anyone ranked below from vaulting ahead — the one thing that could change that — is style points.

Imagine if Wisconsin blows the doors off Penn State. That could be a scary situation for Michigan. Considering the Badgers lost to the Wolverines 14-7 and to Ohio State in double overtime, they don’t have the same head-to-head issues as the Nittany Lions.

It’s hard to jump a team that beat you by 39. But a team you lost to by seven, on the road, that seems easier.

The Badgers also beat an LSU team that gave Alabama its best game of the season. I know that shouldn’t matter, but it’s all part of the eye test.

Wisconsin looks more like a playoff team than Penn State does. Oklahoma might too for that matter.

Most have written off the Sooners and at No.9, it’s hard to see them in contention. However, they have looked great lately and if they beat Oklahoma State 62-0, it could make a difference.

Bottom line: It probably doesn’t matter who wins these games, as long as no one looks particularly impressive in the process.
