Michigan Football vs Maryland: 3 Predictions for the Wolverines
Expect to see Michigan football run it, a lot.
Last week, Maryland gave up more than 400 yards rushing to Indiana. Indiana! That has to be an area of deep concern for the Terps this week as they get set to face a Michigan team that averages 249 yards per game on the ground.
The Wolverines have four backs in De’Veon Smith, Ty Isaac, Chris Evans and Karan Higdon, who have rushed for more than 300 yards this season.
Hidgon is averaging eight yards a carry, while Evans is at 7.7. Smith, Michigan’s leading rusher with 450 yards, is getting five yards a carry. Isaac is getting 5.2.
While Maryland struggled stopping the run against Indiana, the truth is that it’s been a problem all season. The Terps are 10th in the Big Ten in rush defense and with the league’s third-best run game waiting in Ann Arbor, that’s not a promising sign the road team.
Like it has throughout the season, expect Michigan to run the ball early and often, controlling the tempo and attempting to take command of the game right from the start.
If UM succeeds, it will be a long Saturday afternoon at the Big House.
